DNA Gender Testing for Birds of Prey (Raptors)
Determining the sex of raptors can be nearly impossible by sight alone—many species are monomorphic, showing no visual difference between males and females. Our DNA-based sexing test provides a fast, accurate, and non-invasive way to identify gender using a simple feather, blood spot, or buccal swab sample.

Perfect for falconers, breeders, rehabilitators, bird sanctuaries, and educational centers, this test helps support breeding plans, recordkeeping, veterinary care, and conservation efforts.

We currently support testing for a wide range of birds of prey, including but not limited to:

  • Falcons (e.g., Peregrine, Gyrfalcon, Saker)

  • Hawks (e.g., Red-tailed, Cooper’s, Harris’s)

  • Eagles (e.g., Bald, Golden)

  • Owls (e.g., Barn Owls, Great Horned, Snowy)

Each sample is processed using species-appropriate primers targeting the CHD1 gene region to accurately distinguish between ZZ (male) and ZW (female) sex chromosomes. Your results will be delivered securely via email within 3–5 business days of receiving your sample, with the option to include a printable certificate for your records.
