Learn More About The Silkie Lab

I am the founder of The Silkie Lab, a dedicated DNA testing facility that emphasizes accessible testing services for backyard breeders of chickens, geese, and ducks. Combining a strong background in silkie chicken breeding with my current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology & Cell Science, I identified a significant gap in testing labs available to breeders across the United States. Looking ahead, The Silkie Lab aims to broaden its offerings to include disease & virus testing, genotyping, and phenotyping as well. My relationship with chickens commenced in 2021, sparking a deep bond with these extraordinary creatures. During a challenging battle with cancer, my chickens, particularly the silkies, emerged as a wellspring of inspiration and resolve, instilling a renewed sense of purpose within me. By 2022, my fascination with the scientific intricacies of ethical breeding, notably of silkies, had deepened, solidifying my commitment to this field.
