At The Silkie Lab, we offer precise PCR testing to identify the recessive white gene in poultry. This gene, located on the TYR locus, affects the production of tyrosinase, an enzyme critical for melanin synthesis. When inherited from both parents, it disrupts pigmentation pathways, resulting in white plumage. Our testing service provides breeders with valuable genetic insights to support informed breeding strategies.

You will get one of three results for this test, either your bird carries the Recessive White gene, carries two copies, or it does not. This is a recessive trait, and you need two copies (one from each parent) for it to visually show on your bird.

You will also have access to a Breeder Account and can add a photo of the bird to the certificate for your records!.
