Avian and Waterfowl DNA Testing – Blue Egg Gene

At The Silkie Lab, we provide accurate PCR testing to detect blue egg genes in poultry. These genes, located in the EDAR and SLCO1B3 regions, are responsible for the blue pigment (oocyanin) deposited in eggshells. Identifying these genes helps breeders determine if their birds carry or can pass on the trait. Our reliable testing supports your efforts to produce unique and desirable blue egg layers. You will receive one of three results, either your bird carries one copy of the gene, carries two copies, or does not carry any copies of the gene.

You will also have access to a Breeder Account and can add a photo of the bird to the certificate.

Please review the instructions on how to take the sample and mail it in here: https://thesilkielab.com/instructions/

*Please do not choose this option for Silkies who do not yet have real feathers. This does not work with chick down. Please use blood spots on coffee filters for silkies that aren’t old enough to have real feathers yet.
