🧪 DNA Testing — Fowl Pox Virus (FWPV)

Fowl Pox is a contagious DNA virus that causes wart-like scabs and respiratory distress in chickens. This test detects the presence of Fowl Pox viral DNA using a validated PCR method targeting the conserved P4b gene — the gold standard in avian pox diagnostics.

Whether your birds are showing facial scabs, crusty eye lesions, or suspect plaque inside the beak, this test can confirm active Fowl Pox infection quickly and clearly.

🔍 What This Test Detects:

  • DNA from the Fowl Pox virus (FWPV)

  • Detects both cutaneous (dry) and diphtheritic (wet) forms of infection

  • Does not detect antibodies or vaccine exposure — only true viral DNA from the virus itself

📦 Accepted Sample Types:

We accept the following for Fowl Pox DNA testing:

  • Dry scabs or crusts from facial lesions

  • Swabs of oral or eye plaques (dry swabs preferred)

  • Scrapings from wart-like nodules

  • Dried filter material with visible scab debris or lesion contact

💡 For best results: Use a clean Q-tip, twisted paper towel, or dry coffee filter to gently touch the affected area. Let the swab or scab fully air dry before packaging.
